There's more to some women than meets the eye. "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera makes her film debut as a plucky 18-year-old with brains and a strong sense of self-worth when mother Lupe Ontiveros isn't getting on her about her weight and the need to find a man. Torn between dreams of college and a career and family pressure to work in her sister's dress factory, Ferrera agrees to work there for one summer and learns some valuable lessons about Chicana sisterhood from her underpaid fellow employees. Patricia Cardoso ("Lies in Plain Sight," 2010) directed this Sundance-winner.

    Comments about this product:

A wonderful film addressing the issues of weight for adolescent girls and their families. It also show some insight into the Chicano world: the world of work and family, and cultural issues. I purchased this first for a niece, and now have purchased it for myself
