Being stigmatized with the label “learning disabled” can have a devastating effect on children struggling with dyslexia. Facing the social and academic challenges of growing up and going to school when dealing with words is a daily struggle, children living with dyslexia are the focus of this inspiring documentary. Produced by the Oscar®- and Emmy®- winning team of Alan and Susan Raymond (who created the groundbreaking PBS documentary series An American Family), this 77-minute film addresses the public’s misunderstanding of learning differences and demonstrates the great potential of each dyslexic individual. Aside from discussing the daily struggles of youth coping with learning differences, this film incorporates interviews with professionals in the fields of medicine and education who assess the road ahead technologically and academically and shares stories by successful adults who have dyslexia. These subjects bring a new outlook on life to those struggling with their “disability,” and will inspire those from all areas of the learning spectrum.

      Comments about this product:

I plan to buy copies for fellow parents whose children struggle with a learning CHALLENGE. I only wish I had been able to share this movie with my own son's lower elementary teachers. Maybe just maybe they would have been better equipped to properly HELP my son at a younger age.
So many educators still misjudge students as LAZY.

        Comments about this product:

The movie didn't explain to my children what dyslexia is, there was only a short section dedicated to the brain. The main focus is on the pain. My children already know about the pain. Since they have problems reading, we were hoping someone would explain dyslexia through a visual aid. We were wrong. The video was made for individuals to see how dyslexia and the school system affects children and adults with dyslexia, not for children with dyslexia.

I have been a Special Education Reading Teacher for 35 years and the most rewarding part of my career has been teaching dyslexic students to read. I saw the title of this HBO show and thought I would check it out and was very glad I did. I liked it so much that I bought it and have shown it to my students. Their reaction was positive. They have a better understanding of how their dyslexia is actually a gift.

                Comments about this product:

'Journey Into Dyslexia' is one of the most uplifting and inspirational documentary film that I have ever seen. This has changed my life and I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. This is a must see documentary film for all schools around the world, public and private schools. I too was a special ed student, but didn't have dyslexia. I too had learning differences and was ridiculed by my classmates and teachers. I still have the scars from the past, but watching this film...makes me realize that there is hope. I pray that people who are suffering from learning differences can watch this film and be inspired.

As a teacher and also one who is dyslexic, I found this video fascinating and exhilerating! I watched it twice in one sitting.
I would recommend it to everyone.
Best for older children and adults because of language that may not be appropriate for young children.

My review of 'Journey Into Dyslexia' was the most informative and moving documentary film that I have ever seen about learning differences. I was a special education student and misunderstood by many former classmates and teachers. Watching this documentary, I realize that I am not alone and made me proud to accept and feel confident that my gift can make a difference. Thanks to Alan and Susan Raymond for making another amazing documentary!

I watched this with my husband and two boys, all who are dyslexic. My boys have received wonderful remediation from the time they were quite young. It breaks my heart to think that some dyslexics o ndot have this experience. It has not been easy. My guys are brilliant, and creative! I will purchase this for each of their schools and request that the administrators show this to all their staff. I'd love to see more of this topic as a theme for documentaries and mainstream movies! Thank you!

I will gift this to teachers, parents, and to myself...a life long, intelligent, dyslexic. I only wish I could send a copy to my old Sr. High English teacher, who never understood. She threw a book at me one day and screamed about how stupid I really was. I was not and proved it to her, but having the head of the English dept. grade all my papers before she did. I got my good grades, because of my brains and my hard work. She was the one that was being ignorant. Granted it was before they had a name for the way I saw pages of words.
This is a priceless gift to be shared with many people. Every school should own a copy!
