I grew up in OC with the homeless motel kids as a part of my reality. I knew they existed because they went to my school.

I am thankful the documentary was made to finally capture a hidden segemnt of our population and call attention to their struggles. We are used people panhandling. The people who live in the motels are different. They do not pandhandle. They are not on the streets and therefore, are hidden from view. They do not ask for government handouts or charity. They wanto be self suffient with a job like everyone else. They want to work, pay taxes and be consumers like everyone else. They want the American dream, but it is out of reach for them.

This documentary documents how they attempt to keep their families together under such trying, difficult, stressful times as homelessness and unemployment. The chidren go to school despite no fixed addressed.

The documentary is sad at times, but hopeful at other times. It is informative. It is interesting that in the shadow of Disneyland, The Happiest Place on Earth, people stuggle to survive. It is ironic that such profound poverty would be found in the midst of wealthy, glittery, glamorous, beautful Orange County, California.

This is sad.

I hope some of these families get some of the money from the DVD sales. Pure evil to exploit kids in hard times to make a buck. I myself just moved out of a motel-6. I lived there with my mother and my sisters baby for over a year. When i turned 17 years old my Dad gave me $2,000 dollars to get a car a year after buying my sister a brand new car off the lot. Instead of buying a car, i got my mother, my nephew and I a place to call home. I hate it here, it's ghetto dirty broken duplex but better than living in a motel. Hopefully things will get better but i know i wont.
Hopefully none of them are being exploited for HBO to make money, i'd like to think the ones on the show get a % of the DVD.

A very good documentary that reflects the life of the poor as well as their children. A great documentary that focuses around value of individuals and the stresses the children who live in such a lifestyle.
