Helmet For My Pillow (Paperback) Book

Go deep in World War II's Pacific theater in Helmet For My Pillow From Parris Island to the Pacific by Robert Leckie (Paperback). Robert Leckie was both an eyewitness and participant to some of the greatest battles in the Pacific. Helmet for My Pillow is his vivid account of combat and survival in World War II. In January 1942, in the aftermath of the infamous Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. From boot camp in Parris Island to the bloody war in the Pacific, Robert Leckie experienced it all: the booze, the brawling, the loving on sixty-two-hour liberty; the courageous fighting and dying in combat as the Marines slugged it out, inch by inch, island by island across the Pacific to the shores of Japan.

    Comments about this product:

This book gave me a lot more information about the war in the pacific, this book gave much greater detail than the HBO show "the pacific" (not saying it was a bad show)...A true war hero and an outstanding read.

    Comments about this product:

Robert Leckie is a wonderful writer and this book has made me want to read more of his books. The story is even more special and meaningful since it is a first hand account of the war, you come out gaining even more respect for marines, soldiers, or anyone who has fought in any war and what they went through, during and after the war.

        Comments about this product:

This is one the best books IMO to come out of WWII. It has a poetic flow and is very descriptive on what infantry combat was like in the Pacific. Any one interested into what happens inside the individuals who are at the tip of the spear in modern warfare need to read this book.
