Over an hour of music on this cd. It was exactly what I was expecting which is much of the great instrumental music that was created for this show.

With this CD, you can see (imagine) what you hear. The images of the series keep popping in your mind while listening to it.

Ramin Djawadi had a very short time-span to come up with a soundrack to match the quality of the amazing new HBO series "Game Of Thrones". After Steven Warbeck's departure the show's music was very much in doubt. To say that Mr. Djawadi succeeded would be an understatement. He exceeded what I expected in terms of the soundtrack. The proof, ever since I received my copy of the soundtrack, I haven't been able to stop listenning to it. The crown jewels are the "Main Title", "End Title", "North Of The Wall", The Night's Watch" and a few others. My favourite of the themes appears in the tracks "Goodbye Brother", "Kill Them All" and "The King Of The North". The quality of the music is not in doubt. However even with the 5 out of 5 rating there are still some issues which do come up. For one there are too many tracks, instead of 29 tracks, perhaps having between 19 and 25 tracks would have sufficed. This is related to my other criticism, namely that a few of the tracks are quite short, clocking in around the 1 1/2 minute mark, others go only a few seconds over 2 minutes. This makes for a frustrated listenning experience, just as I'm about to get into the track and enjoy its rythms and textures, it comes to an abrupt end. Thus, I would have preferred fewer tracks with a longer play time, where the different themes could be explored in greater depth. The unfortunate end result is that at times the soundtrack sounds rather episodic and fractured instead of a continous thematic and content related whole. It is as if Mr. Ramady was watching the edited daily scenes and scoring each one at the time. This does not make for a very cohesive end product.

Now my perhaps most contentious point is Ramin Djawadi himself. When he was first announced, I must profess that I was not very enthused. This is not to cast any aspersion on him or his abilities, but my first choice for scorring "Game Of Thrones" was and remains Bear McCreary, whose work and talent speak for themselves. In fact another criticism I have towards Mr. Djawadi's work is that some of the the themes from the score sound eerily similar to work Mr. McCreary did years ago on another epic series on another network.

My hope remains that for the second season, and any subsequent seasons afterwards (should any more be forthcoming...keeping fingers crossed) HBO will hire another composer to continue Mr. Djawadi's good start, improve upon it and expand it. Since it seems unlikely that Bear McCreary would be available, I would strongly urge HBO to hire their go-to-guy the amazingly talented Jeff Beal who did an outstanding job on the soundtracks for "Carnivale" and the sublime and riveting work on "ROME" another HBO soundtrack I also own, alongside "The Pacific", "John Adams" and "Band Of Brothers". HBO has a great record and tradition of impressive soundtracks and "Game Of Thrones" is amongst them, but it can and should be better.

I instantly clicked on the link to this soundtrack as soon as i saw it. I was going to pre-order it without thinking until i saw the price. [$] for a soundtrack? seriously HBO? This has to be a joke because with [...], im paying about 25 dollars for this when a soundtrack should be no more than 15 dollars AT MOST, and that is being high priced still. Maybe if it came with free shipping. but no.... This is a joke. I would love to give my money to game of thrones the series so it makes more. But now im going to illegally download it. Thanks HBO for overpricing your items again.
