Fun read and actually feels like the food each region would eat. I actually made some recipes and they don't turn out eatable, the amounts are off and the tempatures are wrong also.

I found this fascinating as I read a lot of medieval novels and history...I will definitely try some of these recipes. I liked the suggested substitutions for some hard-to-obtain medieval ingredients.

The modern variations on the medieval recipes seem easy to cook.

When reading the Ice & Fire books, the description of the actual food more fully envelopes the reader into that world.

This cookbook is wonderful! The beautifully written, photographed, and well-researched recipes are surprisingly easy and accessible. Each dish is based on a passage from the Song of Ice and Fire books (citations included) and most come with both a medieval (or sometimes Roman!) and modern version, which shows how tastes have changed over the centuries.

The book divides the recipes into geographic regions, and does a good job of balancing main dishes, sides, desserts, and drinks from each location.

Although it does a great job of bringing the GoT universe to life, I think it would be a fantastic stand-alone cookbook as well.

I actually haven't cooked anything yet, but I plan to make every recipe! I stayed up half the night reading through the recipes and they all look delicious. I love how the book has a picture of every recipe and that it has the Medieval version and the modern version. The only problem I have is that most of the recipes are side dishes (in my opinion) and some more main dishes would be nice, but I'm sure I'll find more on the writers blog. I can't wait to make the lemon cakes!
