Witness DVD

SKU ID #442829
Some of the world’s most dangerous places are not declared warzones, but cities or regions where drug trafficking, ethnic tensions, poverty, gang violence and political corruption have combined to create the most violent hotspots on Earth. In these areas, the situation is often so volatile that major news organizations have left, or dare not to go at all. Only a handful of photojournalists remain, armed with just their cameras, to document the horrors and attempt to make sense of complicated factors that perpetuate the conflicts. HBO Documentary Films’ Witness, a four-part series executive produced by filmmaker Michael Mann and director David Frankham, follows three combat photographers into conflict zones in Mexico, Libya, South Sudan and Brazil. In following these photojournalists, their relations with the people on the ground and their closeness in battle, Witness shows how, even when everyone else seeks cover, the war photographer stands.

    Comments about this product:

I really had no real understanding about how bad Juarez is, and it's right there beside us. Why and how do people continue to live there. And, the Rio segment, it really is sickening what a country will do to get the Olympics. I can't watch the games now without thinking of the poor people whose lives were taken to clear the area for the wonderful tourists with the statue of Christ the Redeemer right there. All four of the segments were sorrowful. And, worst of all, there appears to be no answer....even Christ the Redeemer looks to the ocean. It's all so shameful. But what bravery by the photojournalists, I appreciate their dedication and bravery. Wow.
