Treme: Stories & Recipes from the Heart of New Orleans (Hardcover) Book

SKU ID #428744
$29.95
Inspired by David Simon's award-winning HBO series Treme, this celebration of the culinary spirit of post-Katrina New Orleans features recipes and tributes from the characters, real and fictional, who highlight the Crescent City's rich foodways. From chef Janette Desautel's own Crawfish Ravioli and LaDonna Batiste-Williams's Smothered Turnip Soup to the city's finest Sazerac, New Orleans' cuisine is a mélange of influences from Creole to Vietnamese, at once new and old, genteel and down-home, and, in the words of Toni Bernette, "seasoned with delicious nostalgia." As visually rich as the series itself, the book includes 100 heritage and contemporary recipes from the city's heralded restaurants such as Upperline, Bayona, Restaurant August, and Herbsaint, plus original recipes from renowned chefs Eric Ripert, David Chang, and other Treme guest stars. For the 6 million who come to New Orleans each year for its food and music, this is the ultimate homage to the traditions that make it one of the world's greatest cities.

This is very well done. The stories about the characters will make you feel closer to them. I love New Orleans and this book tells you about the great city and some of its chefs as well.

      Comments about this product:

My father is from the south and I lived in the south for many years, part of that time was in New Orleans. My friend sent me this book for Christmas because she knows I watch "Treme". I had friends over this weekend for cards and decided to try a few recipes from the book. I made Ramos Fizzes, these were good, Tomato Nepoleons, good but the Roumalade recipe was enormous 1/4 of it would have been sufficient, and then the Creole Succotash, this was one of the most tasteless meals I have ever seen come out of a recipe book. The only spice in it was bay leaf and thyme. The closest hint to this dish being Creole was the okra. I had to do a lot of doctoring up for this dish to even come out of my kitchen. If you want to be entertained this book is wonderful but if you want good New Orleans recipes stick to the classics.

I plan to try several of the recipes at least once (except for the crabs that need to be cleaned- No removing of hearts or lungs for me!)! :-D

        Comments about this product:

This amazing book would have gotten seven stars, says my wife, if there was room! She had her nose buried between its pages from the moment it arrived. The blend of hands-on and narrative stories is an immersive experience. Most of us who lopve NOLA and love HBO's series Treme, can't always get back to Canal or St. Charles or even Bourbon as often as we'd like. With the series winding down, this book will keep us from painful withdrawl symptoms between trips. Highly recommended
