The Pacific DVD is an epic 10-part miniseries that delivers a realistic portrait of WWII's Pacific Theatre as seen through the intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines - Robert Leckie, John Basilone and Eugene Sledge. The extraordinary experiences of these men and their fellow Marines take them from the first clash with the Japanese in the haunted jungles of Guadalcanal, through the impenetrable rain forests of Cape Gloucester, across the blasted coral strongholds of Peleliu, up the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima, through the killing fields of Okinawa, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, return home after V-J Day. The viewer will be immersed in combat through the intimate perspective of this diverse, relatable group of men pushed to the limit in battle both physically and psychologically against a relentless enemy unlike any encountered before.

Actors: James Badge Dale, Jon Seda, Joseph Mazzello

          Comments about this product:

The Pacific takes you there as few other war epics could. The beach storming of Pelileu was incredibly realistic and powerful. Giving Pelileu its due as a terrible battle in the Pacific War was long overdue... my only lament was that my father who fought in the Pacific War was not alive to see it. But his son was and so were his grandchildren.

I would suggest that you watch the bonus dvd first, It gives you an overall about the movie. If you liked Band of Brothers, you will enjoy this. I hope all that watches will remember the brave souls, all gave some, some gave all. Bless all who fought for or is fighting for our freedon.

            Comments about this product:

This was a long overdue tribute to the Pacific War. Band of Brothers covered in detail the events of a small group of soldiers in Europe and was a great series, but the scope of The Pacific is much larger. I wish they had laid additional ground work for some of the significance of events in the series. The defeat and withdrawal of the Navy from Guadalcanal and its effect on the Marines there was not clearly explained. The events of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and the other island hopping battles that shaped the tactics and decision making prior to Peleliu are also missed or under emphasized. Overall, it is a great telling of a epic story. The 1st Marine Division in WWII is a good representative story of combat in the Pacific during WWII. Their exploits (and casualty rates) are legendary. Thanks to the producers for telling this story and thanks to all of you who served.
OBTW I second that opinion. You didn't lose in Vietnam and you didn't let your country down. Semper Fi.

            Comments about this product:

Gerv: You did not lose in Viet Nam! There are many of us who are so thankful that you and the other men who survived made it home. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Regardless of the outcome of that war, you are a valued and honored American Veteran.

The series: I wasn't sure I would be able to relate to "The Pacific" because my Grandpop fought in the Normandy invasion, and I as already a nut about that part of WWII; however, I have been moved beyond words, at times, during this presentation. I like the differences between "The Pacific" and "Band of Brothers" productions, but I'm also enjoying the similarities. I really love the interactive maps on HBO.com and hope it's included on the DVD set.

            Thanks for another great production!

Like the Band of Brothers, this will tell the rest of the story of WW-II and how it really was. We owe our lives to these brave men. I joined the Marines in 1967 and we lost. I feel like we let our Country down and most people made sure that we knew we did. So when I watch these movies it resstores my fath in the honor in war.
