I gave band of brothers a 10. I give the Pacific a 4.5, and that's being nice. Camera work is great. Everything seems very real and cant tell its CGI or anything. The story line is horrid, the acting isnt the greatest. The story is SLOW. You dont get to relate to the characters. The beginning jumps all around, almost to the point where you have no idea what is going on. It is not historically accurate. VERY VERY unnecessary sex scenes that just didnt matter. I have NO idea why the are in here or the love interests. I stopped at part 8 and most likely will not finish it.

The Pacific is the probably the best war series to ever show the affects and effects that war has upon soliders. You come to know three main characters in the 10 part mini-series: John Basilone, Robert Leckie, and Eugene Sledge. This series brought me to tears. You will become emotionally attached to the characters and experience the things that they went through. Would recommend to any who love the subject of World War II or love history for that matter! It is worth EVERY penny!

We are a family of avid history buffs and have greatly enjoyed HBO productions in the past. We've watched Band of Brothers multiple times as a family and have read the written works from which it was drawn. So, having also read many of the first hand reports from the Pacific theater, we eagerly awaited the release of The Pacific on dvd. To finally sit down to watch it was a true disappointment. The story and character development are rather shallow but the worst part was the unnecessary sex scenes added to 'spice it up'. These are not love interest scenes, these are pure sex scenes - no scene development that would allow an adult to warn the younger ones, just straight to 'the business' scenes plopped into the film.

Sadly, I can not recommend this production for anyone in a household where teens (or younger) may want to view it. I expected better from HBO history producers, from Tom Hanks, and from Steven Spielberg. Shame on them for taking important, riveting, and inspiring stories and sullying them with gratuitous, base scenes to 'spice it up'. They owe an apology to the families of each Marine who was portrayed in this manner.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He specifically asked for it and he never asks for anything. He watches the segments in the evening in place of the regular viewing. He is a history buff, anything about wars and this is right up his alley. It came in a very nice metal case and will both protect the videos and looks nice on the entertainment center.

Home use, research ww2,1st Marine division.As the son of 1st Marine division participant the series renewed a latent interest which has since become a crusade. Now knowing more of the Heroism ,Courage and Sacrifices made by the Marines & Army soliders,including my father,Lloyd F Gallagher,Gunnery SGT 1/5/1 1st Marine div. I'm determined to learn as much as possible.Research is ongoing and any information that can be provided to aid me will be greatly appreciated. I wish to thank HBO, the producers and ALL involved in making this remarkable film.

Bought the series to go along with Band Of Brothers. In my opinion it is in a class by itself. I liked Band Of Brothers and have watched the series a few times. But after watching The Pacific through in three days, I don't know that I will watch it again any time soon. That's not a bad thing though. I am a disabled veteran. Watching this series opened my eyes and touched me deeply to the hardships and unspeakable mental trauma that the men who surved in this part of the war had to endure. I will never look at an older marine veteran the same way. This movie series should be seen by more people. It is just too bad that it took this long for the technology to be available to tell this story as clearly and vividly to the public. Thank you ...

Kept my attention through the entire 10-part series. Having served in the military and having relatives who fought in many of these WWII Pacific battles made it even more rivoting.
