This series is one that could have gone on for years, but to have done so would have either strayed away from historical accuracy entirely, or would have required a great deal of research to maintain historical integrity while still engaging the viewers. During it's short run, this show grabbed hold of you and didn't let go until it ended abruptly with the camp being annexed by the territorial government of the time. There is very little sugar coating of early pioneer life, from the language to the daily happenings of death, gambling, and sex, this most definitely not one for the kiddies!

I LOVE THIS SERIES!! I am a novice movie critic, everything about this series is awesome. I use the "F" word too often but can't compete with the overuse of it here. I love it's use for dramatic effect, but the effectiveness is loss at times due to overuse. Also, I seriously doubt that people of that era used that much profanity. People were much more conservative then.Word of advice to potential buyers. Buy HBO shows directly from HBO. If you buy them cheaper from [@] you may get an illegal copy that you can't see well and may have defective discs as well!! (Happened to me)

I loved being able to watch the series at home. I received the first season as a gift and rented season two and three. Now I wish I would have bought them so I could watch them over again!

Recently bought the entire DVD collection of the three seasons worth of DEADWOOD episodes. It is perfect in every way, and it is one of the three best series HBO has ever produced (with Rome and The Sopranos) in my opinion.

The cast, crew, and production are outstanding! Tim Olyphant (now starring in JUSTIFIED) has finally found a vehicle that deserves his talent since DEADWOOD folded. Ian McShane is still going strong, and Jim Beaver is now a wonderful part of the cast on FX's SUPERNATURAL (with two great young actors, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki).

All of DEADWOOD's fans would be so happy if HBO would finish the series, either with one or more two-hour specials, or even one last, definitive season. How wonderful this would be....

Deadwood is one of the better series made, in my book, all the way up there with The Sopranos. It's a great shame the show was cancelled before it began to be truly appreciated, as it far too often happens. The characters were engaging, believable, well portraited by the actors and deeply moving, as well as funny. The plot spun like a tight web, with a good balance of drama, comedy and excitement. You simply could not stop watching.. Deadwood is a small camp near the mountains where many men tried their luck at finding gold. We are in midst of the 1870's. Al Swearengen, the owner of the brothel "The Gem" and camp crook-captain, is a tough and seemingly cruel man that runs his camp as he sees fit. His in many ways right hand, Trixie, one of the prostitutes, is a strongwilled and tough woman, with a well hidden, big heart. One day Seth Bullock, former Sheriff, and his long time friend, Sol Star, come riding out to Deadwood to open up a hardware store. Here they come quickly on Al Swearengens hit-list, but they need his promition to open up shop. Mr. Star finds Trixie, though a working woman, a charming vixen. Soon a beautiful, but married woman by the name of Alma Garret arrives to the camp with her husband. The smell of money awakens Al's interest, whilst Mr. Bullock is attracted by her pleasent nature. The camp is lawless, but as more people come trying to sniff out money, as so do the people find themselves in need of a Sheriff.Again, a great shame only three seasons were made. So if HBO ever considers reviving one of it's shows, Deadwood, as well as Carnivale, should be the first to choose. This show is well worth every piece of gold ;)

Bullock and Alma were destined to get back together the chemistry is undeniable. Al was plotting something mean. Now we will never know who got fed to the hogs next.
Curse you HBO you got me hooked and just jerked it away!

Such a great show, but apparently "too expensive" for HBO to continue and give us a proper ending. My daughter worked on the show in season 2 and 3 and they were told that they would make two 2hour movies to finish up the loose ends on the show---what happened to that idea?:(

I love westerns and this series is the natural extension to the Clint Eastwood westerns..only way better! This show was written by a genius. I love that it is about the beginning of the town of Deadwood,the politics, the everyday life and the real historical facts are all put together. It was the most entertainment I have seen so far on TV/DVD. I am blown away that it is not even been wrapped up though in a two hour special or something! I hated to watch the very last episode knowing there was not going to be any finality.

Except for not having a definetive ending I love this program. Bullock is always right on the edge of going ballistic, Trixie is absolutely my favorite character, she really is a fantastic character, and what can you say about Al? Of course there is always the ever present Mr. Wu. The series really does need an ending.

...We love this great tv show, and we live many thousand miles from the U.S.
When i heard that there's no more episodes i got really disappointed, because i wanted more of the high quality characters and that overall perfect show.
So please HBO, do at least one more season and put it out on bluray too, so we can enjoy one of the best tv series ever so far.

Don't end something that are so great that everyone loves it,
but also don't do too many so people get tired of it.
Balance it's called.
One or two more seasons and a proper end so everyone understands that.
...And did i said Bluray? ;)

My girlfriend and I loved this series and were very much into it. It kept you very involved and waiting for the next episode. we were really discouaged to find that there were not any more episodes.
