George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, explores a world of intrigue, brutal betrayal, and epic battles. Each player takes on the role of one of the six Great Houses, struggling for control of the Iron Throne.

The Living Card Game format comes to life with the release of the A Game of Thrones Core Set. Playable out of the box for 2-4 players in either the melee (multiplayer) or joust (head to head) format, the core set is an ideal starting point for new players.

    Comments about this product:

If you've played Magic the Gathering or similar CCGs you can expect to pick up the basics of the Game of Thrones card game quickly, and easily. Thankfully, Fantasy Flight Games did a wonderful job designing this game to allow a depth of strategy and tactics far deeper than you find in most customizable card games. From the Plot cards that define your overarching scheme for each turn, to the inventive military, intrigue, and power challenges that allow you to attack opponents in a variety of distinct ways, you'll continue to find new layers of possibilities.

This game is perfect for one on one (joust) play, or as a group gaming experience (melee). Thankfully, it's also expandable with new cards beyond those included here in the Core Set, but the inventive new LCG (Living Card Game) distribution model allows players to add a fixed release of fully playable cards to their deckbuilding options each month without the expense of chasing after rarities like competing games.

Also, the community is one of the best in gaming and you'll find great people at many local gaming stores running a variety of competitive or casual gaming nights and events as well as some great community online. Do a few searches for Game of Thrones card game websites and discussion boards online to find some great information on the game. There's even a pretty solid podcast (2 Champs and a Chump) that offers thoughts on strategy and some discussion of the HBO TV series.

All in all, 5 stars is not enough for this fantastic game!
