This poignant drama captures one of the seminal moments in baseball sports history. Barry Pepper and Thomas Jane star as Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle as they vie with each other to break Babe Ruth's home run record during the 1961 season with the New York Yankees. As the two draw closer to the record, the pressure threatens to tear their friendship apart. Billy Crystal directed this powerful, nostalgic made-for-cable sports drama.

    Comments about this product:

I'd love to share with my students but can't due to the language.
The stress that athletes go through, as depicted in this DVD, is never totally comprehended by the average fan.
The only down fall of the DVD is the strong language which I feel detracts from story.

      Comments about this product:

Incredible story of the M & M boys in 1961 NYC! Great contrast b/t Maris & Mantle, yet explores the strength of "man love" that is common but not commonly openly expressed in sports and military circles. Billy Crystal did this one right ...a must for any sports fan or one who appreciates integrity and true friendship.

        Comments about this product:

A great performance by Barry Pepper. We never learned about how Maris' record affected him post retirement, but the storyline and interactions with Mickey Mantle more that make up for it. Anyone who loves baseball will like this film. Billy Chystal takes his passion for baseball and makes a historical event come to life.
